SSTOL Samples

SST Online's new HD² Premium interactive chart service is now available to all members at no additional cost. These charts will include both SST and Turbidity charts. To take advantage of the many new features you should have a broadband internet connection, i.e. cable, DSL or satellite and a current browser, i.e. Explorer 6.0+ or Firefox 2.0+, and at least 512 MB of RAM (physical memory) to run the loop feature. You will also need the free "Java" and "Adobe Flash" player plug-ins for your browser. You probably already have the plug-ins if you are running Microsoft XP or Vista or the newer Apple operating systems. Below are links to samples of the new HD² chart imagery. HD² Premium interface sample page This new high definition, high detail interactive interface will allow members to see twice the resolution of our previous charts and will allow the user to create and print custom SST and turbidity charts with user created waypoints with distance and bearing calculations. You can decide what areas are important to you by dragging the image in the display window. Members have access to all 3 sectional SST charts and all 3 turbidity charts covering Cape Lookout, NC to Cape Cod, MA - and you do not need to install any other software or download and save any files! Full Regional HD² charts This chart image will blow you away with its detail, clarity and expansiveness. If you have a large monitor, high speed internet connection and a few seconds to wait, you are in for a treat. This 3MB file is the same base image we use to create our interactive sectional charts. Although it doesn't have interactivity, a picture is worth a thousand words. Click on the sample image to the left and take a look. Members will get both the SST chart as well as the turbidity chart. HD Premium Image Loop sample page This exciting new feature allows members to choose any range of dates and see a movie loop comprised of multi-merged images. You can further customize the loop by changing the speed (frames per second), zoom factor and display area of the chart. In addition to the on-screen control buttons, corresponding keyboard presses will allow control of the movie as well. Using the keyboard, you can move forward or backward in the loop, as fast or as slow as you would like, frame by frame. The charts used for this feature are large multi-merged images. Using multi-merged images avoids some of the cloud cover and other interference that is often seen on daily charts. Multi merged images are a composite of shots covering a 24 hour period. You will see the Gulf Stream and its eddies like you have never seen them before!

NOTE: Try not to have any other programs running when you use this feature. Loading more than 30 to 60 days of images at a time is not recommended unless you have substantial RAM memory as this may cause unpredictable results. A minimum of 512K of RAM is recommended for 30 days of images, 1GB for 60 days of images. Each image must load directly to your computers memory. If you run out of RAM, the images will load on your hard drive and may not play smoothly at higher frame rates.
